#TBT I am sharing this today because I have one of these in my cupboard right now .. However mine is red. It's awesome and is bigger than any of my other pitchers. I believe I've kept it long enough that it's back in style! And my 'I' I mean my husband, that dude keeps EVERYTHING!

ANTLERS!

Bow season is upon us - only 3 days away!
Here at my house we were 'decorating' with antlers way before it was cool,
but basing your decor on the classic head mount (or 16 of them in my case) isn't for everyone.
For that reason I dig this coffee table idea - a.k.a a functional display of antlers.
How cool is that? Pretty damn cool if you ask me.
Bravo, Patterson Woodworks!!

When Sarah asked if I like antlers I said 'Yea, who doesn't' And the first thing I thought of was this awesome shirt. I just love bringing the country vibe into style - in a cute - non-cowboy boot - way

Today's #TurnItUpTuesday is an #Oldie but a #Goodie!
I believe this is the MOST underrated Bob Seger song of ALL time.
Listen. Enjoy.

Politically Correct?

Hello there. Today I was thinking about where I want this blog to go. What I want this blog to be. And something that Sarah and I talked about is making sure that we touch on topics that we normally avoid. The taboo topics of politics, religion, gun control, gay rights, etc etc etc. So far, for the most part, we've shied away from these issues. For me, this is because I've been treading that line for so long that it feels wrong to even bring it up.  On my personal Facebook page most people can tell where I lean on these topics. I share and post memes that address how I feel. Believe me, I feel strongly about these topics. The taboo ones. But I don't bring these things up or address them in person with anyone (well, it would be more apt to say I don't bring these up with people I know fall in the opposition).

So here we are. On MY (er, our) blog. Where I should feel comfortable to say whatever I believe. However polarizing. And yet I hesitate. With our blog being so young I am scared to turn off our potential readers. I mean, right now, do we have any? I'm not totally sure. But that being said. Someday I hope we will and I don't want to lose those people. But after all that. Our blogs motto is to Keep it simple, Keep it honest, Keep it real. So it's safe to say we aren't running a Don't Ask, Don't Tell kind of deal around here.

So, with that said. This is going to be my first, potentially reader losing, post. I hope that rather than lose readers, though, I will open a dialogue. I will show a perspective that you may not have heard. Perhaps some insight to 'the other side.' And for those that may have opinions and views that fall in line with my own. Welcome, you are not alone. There are others out there.

By the time you read this we will have had the first presidential debate in a very LONG and painful campaign season. Firstly, I will say I am not a huge fan of either candidate. I think that most people will say that. I was (and really still am) a Bernie supporter. I really like what he stands for, and more I like that he's stood for the same things consistently throughout his political career. He is who I voted for in the primary and I really hoped he would pull out the upset (have I mentioned that I love an underdog? ;P) So when Hillary pulled out the win (with her super delegates < Not a Fan!) I shifted my full support to her. I hear the naysayers and their shouts of disdain. She's a liar, she's crooked, she's untrustworthy. I don't totally agree with any of those statements and will not be addressing them as I have not looked into those claims and therefore don't feel informed enough on them to comment. I believe with the media the way that it is I am not able to get an unbiased point of view on the internet. So that's that. A common statement I hear is 'If you want the same administration we have now, vote for Hillary' ... Um, this is where it kind of falls apart for me. I, when thinking about the current president and his administration, do not think this has been all bad. We are not worse off than we were. And we are not worse off than we would have been had President Obama not been our president. I'm even likely to go out on a limb and say that we are, in fact, better off than we were and/or would have been. So 'I'm with her' as they say.

So onto the opponent. Donald Trump. I can not even type that without a deep sigh of contempt. I am not sure where to begin.... I just don't get it. I don't see the appeal. I don't understand where his supporters are coming from.  Honestly, from what I can tell, it really just seems like the 'normal' people I know that are planning to vote for him are really just NOT voting for Hillary.  Is that accurate?  So what I mean by 'normal' is the people that don't fall into that infamous 'Basket of Deplorables' category that was recently in the headlines. So if you're not racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, or Islamophobic then I would consider you in the 'normal category of the Trump voters. So this is where, if you are one of these voters, I would love to hear from you. The only stipulation is that I want to know why you are voting FOR him. I don't want to hear why you're not voting for Hillary. I want to know which policies you agree with, I want to know which topics that he's made a stand on that you support. From where I'm sitting I hear a lot of negative things from Donald Trump not a lot of positives. Meaning a lot of what he's NOT going to do, but very little about what he IS going to do.

There is one argument that about a year ago I might have accepted .. possibly even understood the thought process. And that is that Donald Trump is a business man. Now, it can be debated whether he's a good business man or not. But regardless he has businesses. Some of which are actually successful. So a few years ago we had a businessman run for Governor in the state of Michigan. Also a republican. I voted for him (Gasp! I know! Crazy). His platform was sound. A government is not that different than a business and he'd operated successful businesses and with that same model he was going to run our state. Turn it around. So when you run a business you are making business decisions. You look at the bottom line and you run the numbers and you make decisions based on that. Right? Sound good? Well, tell that to the people of Flint, Michigan. Where a business decision was made for the city to no longer get their water from the Detroit Water and Sewage Department because it was going to 'save money' to source it from the Flint River. And the results were devastating. The city is still ravaged by this disaster. There are still people without drinkable water. So the point? This is an example where a politician with experience running businesses made a business decision with peoples lives.

And now to the real reason I am hesitant to do posts on subjects like this. I don't want them to turn into rants. Which is next to impossible when I get fired up about a topic that I feel so strongly about. So I'll wrap it up here. I honestly do want to hear some of the opposing opinions. I want to understand the 'other side.' But if you choose to weigh in, either below in the comments section, or over on our Facebook page, please refrain from your candidates tactics of name calling and foot stomping. If you choose to weigh in try our approach here at Sometimes Serious; Keep it simple, Keep it honest, Keep it real.
And here's a little video for your enjoyment (whether you're a Trump supporter or not!)

Base your behavior on your beliefs, but be careful not to confuse the two.
